JD.com’s 600 million customers were able to secure amazing deals during the 2023 Singles’ Day Grand Promotion. This year the event ran from October 23 to November 13 and broke its own records for number of transactions, size of orders, and customer engagement.
Highlights for 2023 include:
- 60 brands achieved transaction volumes in excess of RMB 1 billion.
- Nearly 20,000 brands saw their transaction volumes increase by three times as compared to 2022.
- New merchants saw their order volumes increase by five times as compared to the same period in the previous month.
- The “JD Procurement and Sales Manager Livestreaming” sessions went viral, attracting over 380 million visitors.
The “JD Procurement and Sales Manager Livestreaming” Initiative
Numerous industry leaders and consumers tuned into the JD Procurement and Sales Manager Livestreams. The initiative waived fees for brands and focussed on delivering the best value to consumers. As a result of this approach JD.com was able to offer discounts of up to 50% on popular branded products to its customers.
During the livestreams, JD.com’s procurement and sales managers shared their unique insights into consumer behaviour and the company’s product portfolio. During the first week of the promotion, transaction volumes from the livestreaming rooms of JD.com’s digital products, home appliances, and furnishings increased by 10 times compared to the previous month.
Initiatives For Affordable Shopping
It has been a key focus in 2023 for JD.com to develop initiatives to help consumers to buy high-quality products at affordable prices. JD.com guarantees the authenticity of all products.
Initiatives launched include:
- “Flash-Sales” channels.
- “9.9-Yuan Items With Free Shipping” Programme.
- “10-Billion-Yuan Discount” Programme.
Each initiative achieved an increase in popularity during the Grand Promotion period.
The “10-Billion-Yuan Discount” day generated more than RMB 100 million in transactions within four minutes of its launch.
The “9.9-Yuan Items With Free Shipping” day saw order volumes increase by 35 times and user engagement increase by 28 times.
Skyrocketing Sales for Multiple Brands
Over the first week of the Singles’ Day Grand Promotion, nearly 30 brands achieved sales exceeding RMB 1 billion. 15,000 brands saw their transaction volume increase by more than five times as compared to 2022. Almost 9,000 of these brands saw transaction volume increase by more than 10 times.
In the first 10 minutes of the sale branded (iPhone, Honor, Xiaomi, OPPO, Huawei, and vivo) smartphones saw a 100% increase in transaction volume compared to 2022.
Luxury brands including Gucci, Dior, and Louis Vuitton also saw their transaction volumes more than triple in the first 30 minutes as compared to 2022.
In the technology category, the transaction volume for 3D printers increased by more than 10 times. Transaction volume for flip phones, gaming laptops, high-power portable chargers, and over-ear headphones increased by more than three times.
Support For New Merchants
The Singles’ Day Grand Promotion attracted many new merchants to JD.com. New shop registrations increased by 3.4 times. The number of established merchants that took part in the promotion increased by 1.5 times compared to 2022.
JD.com’s “Spring Dawn Initiative” spurred much of this growth by offering more than RMB 100 million in subsidies to new stores during the event.
JD.com also provided merchants with an “RMB 1-Yuan” package so they could access the company’s operational data open platform. This platform generates comprehensive insights into store operations in real time. Merchants can use these insights to make strategic decisions and optimize their business plans.
